4147 Glutamate release and toxicity in cultured chick retina cells
Repare In order to purify and characterize retinal pigment epithelial proteins exhibiting uveitogenic characteristics upon immunization of Lewis rats, a broad panel of monoclonal antibodies directed against retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) protein antigens, was isolated. Merh&s Bovine RPE detergent extracts were used to isolate monoclonal antibodies against RIPE antigens. Species and tissue spe...
متن کامل[Ca2+]i regulation by glutamate receptor agonists in cultured chick retina cells
The effect of glutamate receptor agonists on the intracellular free calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i), measured with Indo-1, was studied in populations of cultured chick embryonic retina cells. The agonists of the ionotropic glutamate receptors, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), kainate, and alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) increased the [Ca2+]i through a composite effec...

Growth of cultured cells in low potassium medium has been shown to result in an increase in the number of Na,K-ATPase sites. This phenomenon and its physiological and pharmacological consequences were examined in spontaneously beating monolayers of cultured chick heart cells. Growth of cells in 1 mM extracellular potassium, 2 ^M ouabain, or 1 /*M veratridine for 48 hours caused 60%, 40%, or 20%...
متن کاملEffects of monosodium glutamate on chick embryo retina in culture.
Monosodium glutamate added to 12-day chick embryo retinas in culture causes severe morphologic damage to the retina as judged by light microscopic examination. Damage is evident after a few hours with concentrations as low as 0.3 mM. Glutamyltransferase induction is also appreciably inhibited by the amino acid. General protein synthesis and RNA synthesis appear to be less affected.
متن کاملCalcium-induced spikes in cultured pigment epithelium of chick retina.
Resting membrane potentials, electrical resistance, and coupling of chick retinal pigment epithelium cells in tissue culture have been measured with micropipette electrodes. Topical application of NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2 produce rapid, reversible changes in the membrane potentials of these cells. CaCl2 uniquely induces a slow hyperpolarizing wave that can lead to barrages of depolarizing ac...
